Cello Teacher Susan Lindemann holds a cello against a white background

Meet the teacher…

Susan Lindemann is a cello and piano teacher in Tampa Bay, Florida. Graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance, Susan teaches professionally to students of all ages and levels. Her experience includes working with students both locally and internationally. In 2024, she joined the Collective Chamber Orchestra on a tour to Honduras and offered masterclasses to students in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Recently, she was invited as principal cellist, soloist and guest faculty member to the 2025 Festival Internacional la Centro in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She currently teaches online and offers in-person lessons to students in the Tampa Bay Area.

Susan’s teaching philosophy has three primary focuses; the development of technique fundamentals, aural skills, and self-teaching. Healthy technique is important to facilitate music-making, and Susan works to ensure that every student can play with relaxed technique. Aural/listening skills are the foundation of musicality, so lessons incorporate active listening and ear development to help students grow their inner artist. Lastly, Susan believes that every student should have the tools needed to continue learning beyond the classroom. She works with her students on how to teach themselves music, so that they have the ability to continue music creation throughout their entire lives.

Susan’s lessons are…

  • Personalized

Each student has a unique learning style, and learns at their own pace, which is why every lesson is customized to the needs of the student!

  • Age-Inclusive

Susan has experience teaching students as young as five years old, pre-teens, teenagers and adults.

  • Multi-disciplined

Piano is often incorporated into lessons as a means of explaining music theory. Lessons will also feature examples of music from different genres!

Student and Parent Reviews

Susan is an outstanding cello teacher. She is always punctual, patient, and truly wonderful with kids. My child is part of the school orchestra, and Susan has been essential to his musical growth and confidence on the cello. She explains concepts clearly, keeps lessons engaging, and knows exactly how to motivate young students. We’ve seen consistent improvement, both technically and musically, and we’re very grateful for her dedication and professionalism. Highly recommend her to any family looking for a great cello teacher.”

“I initially struggled to find a cello teacher and am so glad I persisted and eventually found Susan. She is positive, patient, and genuinely encouraging. As an adult beginner student I really appreciate the freedom she gives me to choose my own music while still thoughtfully guiding my progress, and patiently, and politely navigating my urge to play things way above my level. Her teaching style is respectful and flexible. Her rates are reasonable, and I always leave lessons feeling supported and motivated. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled and supportive cello teacher”

“Susan is such a talented musician! She taught my daughter how to play cello and was so patient and kind. She really went above and beyond during their time together. I was lucky enough to see Susan perform in a recital and she was wonderful. She clearly loves what she does and is a true professional.

FAQs

Do you offer online lessons?

Yes! My studio is fully online. Students are welcome to record lessons upon request if they would like to review them later. This is a wonderful resource to use throughout the week!

How do I know if online lessons are for me?

Learning is never “one size fits all”. Similarly, online lessons are a great fit for some people, but not everyone! Online lessons are a great resource for parents and adult students with busy schedules. I find that the online format promotes consistency by being easily accessible. During the first month of lessons I evaluate every student’s compatibility with online lessons by observing their responsiveness to verbal and visual instruction. If a student needs more hands on assistance, I may recommend in-person lessons!

What instruments do you teach?

The cello is my primary instrument, and the instrument that I teach the most. I teach beginner to intermediate level piano, which is a great skill for cellists to develop as well! Lastly, I teach beginner bagpipe lessons.

How long are lessons?

I find that an hour is best for students over the age of 10. For younger students, it depends! I find that some young players can stay very focused when they are excited about the instrument, but others need shorter lessons to stay on track!

How often do you recommend having lessons?

I recommend having weekly lessons for students over the age of 10! Meeting once a week is a great way to maintain focus on the various topics we will work on. For younger students, I typically recommend 1-2 short lessons per week.
